Staff gets its day in the sun at the annual picnic

Only five more days until the Thank Goodness for Staff Barbecue!

The event takes place outside Putah Creek Lodge 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 10 and the entire campus staff is invited.

Don’t wait to buy your tickets: They are only $4.75 by 5 p.m. today from the Cashiers Office in Dutton Hall or $6 at the door.

We will be having a fantastic menu this year with barbecued chicken and ribs, pasta marinara with artichoke hearts (vegetarian), green salad, rolls with butter, ice tea and lemonade, catered by Ludy’s BBQ of Woodland.

The barbecue features door prizes, live music by Americana roots trio Dog With A Bone and lots of food. Administrators will show their support for staff by serving lunch at the picnic. While there, estimates will be taken for the Guess-the-Weight contest, and staff members can test their aim by trying to dunk an administrator.

The Staff Scholarship recipients will be announced at the picnic, and the Citations for Excellence Recipients will be honored. Bovine Bingo will be returning this year.

The TGFS T-shirts and sweatshirts are being mailed out to those of you who ordered early, displaying the TGFS 2000 Logo on a denim-blue shirt. The tank tops have the same logo on ash-gray shirts. If you’d still like to order one, contact Pam Torrey at pktorrey@ucdavis.edu. During the barbecue, staff members will be voting for their choice of logo for next year’s TGFS 2001 celebration.

John Gregg, director of controls and accountability, has graciously volunteered to be our one and only "dunkee" this year. Stop by and take a shot!

Bovine Bingo tickets are selling like hot cakes; make sure to get your $5 donation to Zack O’Donnell, zmodonnell@ucdavis.edu to increase your chances of winning that Disneyland Getaway. (You can read the rules in the April Staff News.)

All of us on the TGFS Committee are looking forward to seeing you at the barbecue, so bring those blankets to sit on and enjoy a fun-filled day with live music and lots of great people.

Volunteers are still needed for the day of the event, please call me at 754-7700 or by e-mail mlreynolds@ucdavis.edu, Any help you could provide would be most appreciated.

Michelle Reynolds, of Information Technology’s Communica-tion Resources, is chair of TGFS this year.
