New Parking Facility Is Almost on Deck

Workers prepare the first of two decks for the new three-story parking structure, located south of Old Davis Road and west of the Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center. The steel frames seen above have been set in place for columns that will support the beams and decks of the structure. Concrete will be poured into a form that fits around each of these steel skeletons. "Once the concrete is poured and cured for a specified amount of time, the forms are removed and voila! We have concrete columns!" reports Pam Robbins, associate project manager for Architects and Engineers. The 709-space garage is part of a $10.5 million project to realign roads in the area and add a surface parking lot adjacent to the garage. According to Robbins, the total project, about 30 percent complete, should be ready by next fall. The new 800-stall surface parking, which will be finished between late March and early April, is about 75 percent finished. Construction will begin on the Center for the Arts north of the parking facility this spring
