UC and the UAW reached a tentative agreement on a new contract late Tuesday evening. The contract will cover teaching assistants, readers and tutors, of which there are approximately 13,000 in the UC system.

"We are very pleased with this outcome and look forward to an early ratification of the tentative agreement," said Dennis Shimek, associate vice chancellor for human resources.

"We thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this period of time. We also look forward to a productive working relationship with the UAW in the administration of the contract," Shimek said.

Details of the tentative agreement would be shared soon, he said.
