Top Campus Administrators to Staff Phone Lines For Calls from Public

Got a question or comment for senior administrators at the University of California, Davis? They'll be just a phone call away Wednesday, April 19. The chancellor, vice chancellors and deans will be staffing the telephone lines from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., eager to hear what's on callers' minds. Those phoning in should dial (916) 752-4211. A pilot project, "Campus Leaders on Call" is an effort to strengthen relationships, build understanding, gather ideas and solve problems, according to Rich Matheny, vice chancellor for university relations. "In this time of increased accountability, anything we can do to reach out to our community and to increase understanding of higher education ought to be pursued vigorously," Matheny said. "That's why we'll be waiting by the phones April 19, hoping people take advantage of this additional opportunity to connect with us, to ask questions, to let us know what's working well and what needs further thought. We really depend on these kinds of exchanges." "Campus Leaders on Call" piggybacks on Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef's monthly brownbag briefings for faculty, staff and students. Those at a greater distance from the campus can also connect with senior campus administrators by phoning April 19. "If it's successful, we certainly would look to making this a regular event," Matheny said.
