Aliens and science fiction featured in otherworldly events

Aliens, interplanetary journeys, time travel. Get set for a trio of sci-fi related activities including a science fiction forum, a film series and an art exhibition. "IMAGining Aliens" will be discussed in a forum at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, in Room 217 of the Art Building. The program will include Karen Joy Fowler, science fiction writer; Susan George, a graduate student in the dramatic art and dance department; and Al Harrison, psychology professor and author of the recently published book "After Contact: The Human Response to Extraterrestrial Life." Already ongoing is an exhibition of illustrator Charles Schneeman's works from "Astounding Stories/Astounding Science Fiction," on display through March 27 at the Nelson Gallery on campus. A science fiction filmfest will occur on three consecutive Thursdays, beginning March 5, at 7 p.m. in Room 261 of Olson Hall. "Metropolis," "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and "The Brother from Another Planet" will be shown in that order, one per evening. The films are presented by the Nelson Gallery and the Nelson ARTfriends.
