Russian

A major in Russian not only provides instruction in speaking and understanding the Russian language, it exposes you to the richness of Russian literature and culture. Writers like Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Chekhov and Nabokov; composers Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky; and painters Chagall and Kandinsky have all come from the great Russian tradition. At UC Davis, Russian classes are small group sessions taught by internationally-known professors. Education abroad and careers in international business and relations are open fields with a background in Russian from UC Davis.

Real World Outcomes: 

The Russian major can be tailored to a students' career interests. Knowledge of Russian is a major asset in many fields, including diplomacy, politics and international business. The program also prepares students for graduate studies and academic careers in all aspects of Russian history and culture.

Requirements: 

As a Russian major, you will begin with a series of progressive language courses designed to teach you to read, write and speak Russian in two years. Your upper-division courses will include more advanced language instruction, literature courses which will train you in literary and linguistic analysis and culture courses where you will gain insight into the history and traditions of the Russian people.
