Sacramento Family Purchases Aggie Village Site in Davis

Culminating four years of planning and coordination with the city of Davis, the University of California, Davis, has awarded the Aggie Village commercial property to the Friedman family of Sacramento for $1,501,099. The 3.3 acre site east of the newly designed residential area on A Street has been zoned as central commercial and is slated to be a downtown retail shopping center. The university received four sealed bids with a minimum bid set at $1,050,000. "This is great news for the campus and the city," said John Yates, special projects director for the administration office at UC Davis. "We don't know yet what businesses the new owner will bring to Davis, but we do have an upscale retailer -- the Friedman family owns and manages the Arden Fair Mall and Market Square in Sacramento. The Davis city manager estimates that this project will bring at least $280,000 in fees and about $40,000 per year in sales tax revenue." The land was appraised at a value between $1.2 million and $1.5 million.
