Regents to discuss proposed lab management, stadium next week

The UC Board of Regents meets Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 19 and 20, at UCSF-Laurel Heights.

One major action item will be authorization for UC to bid for the continued management of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

The regents also will consider budget and financing approval for a $29.7 million UC Davis multi-use stadium to replace the 5,000-seat Toomey Field, built in 1948. The multi-use stadium project would be an approximately 10,000-seat facility, with room for later expansion.

When completed on the corner of Hutchison Drive and La Rue Road, adjacent to the Schaal Aquatics Center, the multi-use stadium will serve as the home field for both the UC Davis football and women's lacrosse programs. It will also provide a venue for community events, such as high school athletic events, concerts and commencement ceremonies.

The project is supported by a mix of funding, including student-supported fees, gifts and external financing.

Next week's meeting also will be the final regular meeting for outgoing regents Ward Connerly and Velma Montoya.

Below are other items included on the regents' agenda, which is available online at: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/regents/regmeet/jan05.html.
