RECENT GIFTS: Private support in 2005-06 reaches almost $69 million

UC Davis has received almost $69 million in donations from individuals, corporations and foundations since the beginning of the fiscal year on July 1, 2005. These charitable contributions support faculty research, academic programs, classroom instruction, facilities improvements and student financial aid. Contributions made in March, April and May include:

  • $1 million over the next five years from the Koret Foundation of San Francisco to the School of Veterinary Medicine's Shelter Medicine Program.
  • More than $100,000 from former UC Davis student Reza Abbaszadeh to the Graduate School of Management. His gift initiates a program to bring international graduate business students to study at the GSM for a quarter, beginning in the fall.
  • $10,000 from Ross Lampe and Mark Muro of the law firm Muro & Lampe to establish a scholarship fund for the College of Letters and Science. Scholarships will be awarded to four students who have persevered in their education through difficult circumstances. The fund honors Lampe's late wife, Heather Nikkel-Lampe, who graduated from UC Davis in 2001 with a degree in history.
  • $50,000 from the Tyco Electronics Foundation to continue its fellowship in functional materials-nanoscience research. Tyco has hired one of the past fellowship recipients, Stefanie Gravano, who is set to join Tyco in July.
  • $25,000 from Holocaust survivor and author Joseph Pell and his wife, Eda, to the Program in Jewish Studies.
  • A collimator, a device that improves the accuracy of radiation treatments, reducing damage to healthy tissue, from the George and Lena Valente Foundation to the School of Veterinary Medicine.
  • A $60,000 pledge by Mohammad and Nasrin Mohanna to University Outreach and International Programs to pay for infrastructure for the unit's first major fundraising venture.
  • Nearly $14,000 from Joan Sallee and others to establish the G. Thomas Sallee Mathematics Teaching Endowment to honor math professor Tom Sallee's distinguished 40-year career.
  • $10,000 from former Student Affairs employee Ted Adams and his wife, Junko, to endow The Adams Award for Leadership in a Student Organization. The annual award honors a student whose leadership makes an impact on the campus or the wider community.
