The campus is looking back on 50 years of the Whole Earth Festival this year. The student-run event celebrating sustainability, expression and community started in 1969 as a project for an art class, and has since morphed into a weekend-long festival that attracts tens of thousands of people each year with music, food, vendors and more.

The Whole Earth Festival is held on Mother's Day weekend each year, which falls on May 10-12 this year. If you can't wait that long to get into the spirit, the UC Davis Library has an exhibit showcasing historical posters, photos and more.
“A Sustainable Groove: 50 Years of the Whole Earth Festival” is on display through July 1 in the Shields Library lobby, to the left of the main staircase. It's curated by Special Collections.
“Stop by the lobby of Shields Library to celebrate five decades of the Whole Earth Festival through an exhibit of historical posters, photographs, ephemera, and even a ‘Karma Patrol’ T-shirt,” the library says on its website.
