Author Gus Lee to Read From His New Novel

Gus Lee, author of "China Boy" and a University of California, Davis, alumnus, will read from his new novel, "Honor and Duty," at noon Monday, May 16, in Room 3201 of Hart Hall at UC Davis. In "Honor and Duty," Lee writes about the Chinese-American experience, delving into provocative issues ranging from the American military to racial stereotypes to identity. Lee received his bachelor's degree in political science and his law degree from UC Davis. While at UC Davis, he was a distinguished ROTC graduate in the military science department. Lee has served as a drill sergeant, paratrooper, military criminal defense lawyer, deputy district attorney, deputy director for the California District Attorneys Association and senior executive for the State Bar of California. His first novel, "China Boy," was published in 1991. Lee now works as a full-time writer. Free and open to the public, Lee's reading is sponsored by the departments of Asian American studies and military science, the College of Letters and Science, UC Davis law school, Asian Pacific American Alumni Association, UC Davis chapter of the Asian Pacific American Systemwide Alliance and the UC Davis Bookstore. After his reading in Hart Hall, Lee will stay to sign books. At 4 p.m., he will be available for a book signing at the UC Davis Bookstore in the Memorial Union.
