The AB540 and Undocumented Student Center is set to become a permanent fixture on the UC Davis campus.

The center had been operating under temporary funding after being established in 2014 with funds from the UC Office of the President, but will now be permanently funded through Student Affairs.

The center, located in the Student Community Center, coordinates with the UC Immigrant Legal Services Center to provide free legal services, and offers academic advising, tutoring, grants, mentoring and professional development.

Its UndocuAlly Program for Educators has trained more than 700 participants on the challenges of being an undocumented student, the laws and practices that affect them and the ways faculty, staff and graduate students can be sensitive and support undocumented students. Past participants of that workshop often display UndocuAlly placards around their offices.

“The work provided by the AB540 and Undocumented Student Center is more important than ever, and we’re proud to reaffirm our commitment to our undocumented student population,” said Emily Prieto-Tseregounis, interim director of the center and assistant vice chancellor and chief of staff to the interim vice chancellor for Student Affairs.

As part of gaining permanent funding, the center will be able to hire additional staff members. Additional information on that expansion is forthcoming.
