Federally Funded Research Saved a Life

Lychee was a 4-month-old cat when he was diagnosed with Feline Infection Peritonitis (FIP), a disease once considered almost always fatal in cats. His family enrolled him in a federally funded UC Davis clinical trial testing a new cellular therapy. Within a week, he began eating again. He started playing. The kitten they feared losing came back to life.

“We were able to give Lychee a second chance.”

Today, Lychee is thriving. The same research that helped treat his disease is informing broader work on coronavirus-related conditions, including potential applications for people living with long COVID. Federally funded research at UC Davis does more than treat animals. It strengthens the science that protects both animal and human health.
