UC Davis Chancellor Announces Organizational Changes to Student Affairs and Campus Diversity

Today, UC Davis Chancellor Gary S. May announced organizational changes to the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity.

With Adela de la Torre departing to become president of San Diego State University, May will recruit candidates for two positions: vice chancellor of Student Affairs, and a new position of vice chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

“I’m pleased with how Student Affairs fosters programs that facilitate success for all of our students,” May said. “One thing we must do is further increase the diversity of our students, faculty and staff in the years ahead. This new position for diversity, equity and inclusion will allow us to engage more effectively with recruitment and retention of the best and brightest students, faculty, and staff in the state and nation.”

Under the organizational changes, the vice chancellor of Student Affairs will retain oversight of student affairs partnerships and programs that promote student learning and advance student success, personal growth, and lifelong learning.

Oversight of student fee use and allocation will transfer to the Office of Budget and Institutional Analysis. Enrollment management related functions — including admissions, financial aid and the registrar’s office — will remain with Associate Vice Chancellor Walter Robinson, who will report to the provost and executive vice chancellor effective March 1.

In the coming weeks, May will announce next steps and further details for the recruitment of both vice chancellor positions, including establishing a search advisory committee for each.
