RE: UC Davis 1997-98 Major Capital Improvement Projects Draft Supplemental
Environmental Impact Report
The University is evaluating the potential environmental effects of
the proposed 1997-98 Major Capital Improvement Projects. Components of the
1997-98 Major Capital Improvement Projects include:
(1) Plant and Environmental Sciences Replacement facility.
- approximately 71,940 assignable square feet (asf) of laboratory and
office space
- located on the central campus on a site north of Veihmeyer Hall,
west of Hunt Hall, and south of Tennis Court Lane
(2) Core Greenhouse Facility and a Plant Science Teaching Center
(Bowley Center)
- Core Greenhouse Facility would provide approximately 25,000 asf
of greenhouse and 5,000 asf of headhouse space
- Bowley Center would provide approximately 9,000 asf of
laboratories, greenhouses, offices, and a lecture room
- located on the western portion of the central campus at a site
south of Extension Center Drive, west of the Transportation
and Parking Services Offices, and adjacent to the existing Plant
Science Teaching Center
(3) La Rue Student Housing
- approximately 192 units of housing on 11.3 acres for 550-750
students
- located in the western portion of the central campus on the west
side of La Rue Boulevard between the existing Recreation Pool
Lodge and the in-line skate facility
(4) Enterprise Reserve Addition
- expand existing Enterprise Reserve from 12 to 27 acres
- located on the south campus at a site bounded on the east by
Old Davis Road, on the south by campus lands used as Teaching
and Research Fields, and on the west by I-80
- Enterprise Reserves are sites where alternative funding measures
(e.g., public-private partnerships) may be used to support the
academic mission of the campus
