Student Leaders Learn From Regional Leaders

The U.S.A. Olympic women's track coach, politicians, judges and communication specialists are what attract UC Davis students to a special series of leadership workshops that have become very popular. This fall, the campus is beginning the second year of these classes, which link business, educational, political and other regional leaders with both graduate and undergraduate students. "Having reviewed student evaluations of the Leadership Development Series, it's clear that our students view these workshops as augmenting and enhancing their academic experience," says Bob Franks, acting vice chancellor for student affairs. Adding this leadership component to their educational experience will strengthen the students' abilities to be competitive in seeking initial and future career opportunities, adds Franks. One of the first courses begins Monday, Oct. 24, with the women's Olympic track coach Deanne Vochatzer, who will discuss how to set goals. It begins at 6 p.m. in the East Conference room of the Memorial Union.
