Believed to be the largest women's sporting event in the world, the Nike Volleyball Festival will bring more than 750 teams and more than 8,000 athletes to the region June 26 through July 1. For the 11th consecutive year, UC Davis will be hosting the junior and senior high-school players. The competitors will come from more than 30 states and Canada. College volleyball coaches use this event to recruit some of the finest young players in the country, according to Julie Towne, conference coordinator. The majority of the play will be at Recreation Hall on the Davis campus and at the Sacramento Convention Center, where 30 volleyball courts will be set up. The competition begins on Monday, June 26, and the finals are played at UC Davis on Friday, June 30, and Saturday, July 1.
