National energy strategy up for review

One of four national public hearings on the development of a national energy strategy will be held Friday, Feb. 13, at UC Davis by the U.S. Department of Energy. The hearing will take place 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the University Club, Room I. Ernest J. Moniz, Undersecretary of Energy, will chair the meeting. DOE representatives will offer an overview of a draft "Comprehensive National Energy Strategy" and then solicit comments from the public and other interested parties. The draft CNES contains five basic goals: "to improve the efficiency of the energy system; to ensure against energy disruptions; to expand future energy choices; and to cooperate internationally on global issues." A copy of the draft CNES will be published in the Federal Register prior to the hearings. The draft also is available through the internet at http://www.eren.doe.gov/nes.html.
