Andrew S. Duxbury, assistant professor of medicine at the UC Davis School of Medicine and Medical Center, will deliver one of the six UC Health Net Wellness Lectures at 8 a.m. on Oct. 7. Duxbury, whose topic will be "Disease Prevention Vs. Health Promotion: Pitfalls of Preventative Care in the Geriatric Population," will deliver his address at the Ambulatory Care Surgery Unit Auditorium at UCDMC on Stockton Boulevard. Duxbury is a newly appointed faculty member at UC Davis, where he served a residency in internal medicine from 1988 to 1991. He is associate medical director at the Sacramento County Multipurpose Senior Services Program and at the Geriatric Nursing unit at UCDMC. His research interests include appraising continuity of care for geriatric patients between acute-care hospitals and skilled-nursing facilities, predictors of obesity in the elderly, the proper role of physical therapy in treating the geriatric patient and the ethical dilemmas in patient refusal of treatment.
