Lingering Wildflowers

The cool, wet weather has extended the wildflower season in Northern California this spring, according to a UC Davis botanist. Museum scientist June McCaskill reports that some locations, such as Table Mountain in Butte County, are especially spectacular after the recent rains. McCaskill has an informal list of the best places to view wildflowers, based on class field trips and word-of-mouth accounts passed along by other researchers. (Maps and directions to some areas are available to reporters.) At the botany herbarium, McCaskill curates a worldwide collection of more than 150,000 specimens of dried, pressed plants.
