-- Judith Stern, professor of nutrition and internal medicine, will receive the 2001 Charles A. Black Award by the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology. It recognizes her work in translating science to the media. Stern directs the UC Davis Food Intake Laboratory Group and co-directs the National Institutes of Health-funded Alternative Medicine Center for Research in Asthma, Allergy and Immunology. An expert on diet and nutrition, she has published extensively on nutrition, the effect of exercise on appetite and metabolism and obesity. The agricultural council assembles, interprets and communicates information on food, fiber, agricultural and related societal and environmental issues to legislators, policy-makers, the media and others.
