Group appointed to monitor progress in addressing staff concerns

As part of a broad campus action plan, a group of senior advisers is being appointed to monitor the progress in addressing staff workload/compensation concerns that have been voiced over the past two years.

The deans and vice chancellors have been asked by Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Robert Grey to designate representatives by today. Assistant Executive Vice Chancellor Jerry Hallee will convene the group beginning July 5 and continue the meetings on a biweekly basis through the academic year 2000-2001.

Grey points out that several actions have already been completed or initiated in the past two months: increased reclassification funding, equity salary increases, improved management within academic units, additional funds for central campus services, a fresh look at staff support in academic units and communicating that staff employees are a priority at UC Davis.

Over the next year, additional actions are proposed: a formal communication plan that continues to inform the campus about staff workload and compensation concerns; more staff compensation initiatives that assure fair, market-sensitive staff compensation; the development of administrative support plans that complement the academic plans; process improvement reviews; improved structure to support administrative services; and exploration of ways to simplify the multiple annual evaluation schedules and processes.
