The game itself will be a pivotal one as, more than halfway through the season, UC Davis and Eastern Washington both have a shot for the Big Sky title and an automatic berth in the NCAA’s Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.

The Eastern Washington Eagles and the Aggies, ranked seventh and ninth, respectively, in national polls this week, are both 4-1 in conference play, tied for third place behind Montana State at 5-0 and Sacramento State at 4-0 with four weeks to go in the regular season.

This Saturday (Oct. 30), UC Davis, Eastern Washington and Montana State all have byes while Sac State plays at Northern Colorado (2-3).

See “At a Glance” for ticket information, including a Youth Day deal for ages 3-13 ($3 plus fees for total price of $5) and a combo deal for admission to the UC Davis-Eastern Washington mens basketball game, 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, and the football game the next day ($40 plus $1 fee).

Extras!

SALUTE TO HEROES — Swing by Gate 1 to meet and greet military personnel and first responders, take a look at what they drive, take photos — and thank them for their service. Free tickets are available for all military personnel and first responders by calling the ticket office at 530-752-2471.

PINT POWER — The Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever is retiring after 10 years of doing what he does best: retrieve! Intercollegiate Athletics has partnered with the School of Veterinary Medicine (Pint belongs to Danika and Mike Bannasch, both of whom are affiliated with the veterinary school, Danika as a professor and Mike as a clinical trial coordinator) for the bobblehead giveaway.

DOXIE DERBY — This Picnic Day favorite will make a dash at halftime. And lest we forget one other four-legged star of the show: Josie, who will be taking her turn as our real horse mascot; Josie and her rider, “Maggie the Aggie,” will lead the Aggie team onto the field, then stick around to meet their fans throughout the first half of the game.

THE ‘MIRACLE GAME’ — Also at halftime, UC Davis will honor members of the 1971 team that saw the Aggies rally from 15 points down with 20 seconds remaining to defeat Cal State Hayward, 30-29, in what has become known as the “Miracle Game.” It set the tone for 36 straight winning seasons, including 20 consecutive conference championships.
