Food-Borne Diseases Workshop

While the food supply in the United States may be among the safest and most wholesome in the world, the public continues to ask for even safer foods and more information. To address this issue, there will be a workshop on food-borne diseases at UC Davis on Friday, Jan. 8, in Memorial Union II. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Michael Osterholm, state epidemiologist and chief of acute disease epidemiology for the Minnesota Department of Health and a nationally recognized authority on the prevention and control of food-borne disease. Workshop coordinators hope the event will lead to the formation of a California food-borne disease consortium, designed to improve communication, cooperation and collaboration among agencies, industries and the university to address issues of food safety and food-borne disease. Workshop sponsors include the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the School of Medicine.
