Cultural Days: U.S.-Mexico Border Relations

California-Mexico border relations and their effect on art,society, the economy, politics and culture will be the focus of a series of talks during La Raza Cultural Days at UC Davis beginning Monday, April 29. An overview of the issues will be given that day by Adaljiza Sosa-Riddell, a lecturer at UC Davis with expertise in Chicano studies and politics, and Alex Zaragoza, coordinator of Chicano Studies at UC Berkeley. On Tuesday, artists will discuss border art and culture. Central American perspectives will be given on border relations by three UC Davis faculty members on Wednesday. The last talk, on Thursday, will deal with hate and violence along the U.S.-Mexican border. Most of the talks begin at 4 p.m. in Memorial Union II. The weeklong La Raza Cultural Days program features lectures, music, art exhibitions, poetry, films and recreational activities. Other highlights of the week include a car show Sunday, April 28, from noon to 6 p.m. at First and A streets.
