Charles Langley

-- Charles Langley, professor of genetics in the UC Davis Section of Evolution and Ecology, was awarded the 1999 Genetics Society of America Medal for his contributions to the understanding of genetic variation in natural populations and the population biology of parasitic transposable elements. The society annually awards the medal to a scientist in recognition of his or her outstanding contributions to genetics in the previous 15 years. Langley was a scientist at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences from 1973 until 1989, when he joined the UC Davis faculty. Over the course of his career he has trained a school of investigators in the use of molecular-genetic methods of analysis in population genetics, many of whom now hold key positions in worldwide research institutions.
