Our annual celebration of the UC Davis Principles of Community is approaching, and four events — a Racial Healing Circle and a campus dialogue for everyone, a networking luncheon for staff, and a workshop with lunch for faculty — are asking for RSVPs:

  • Principles of Community Staff Networking Luncheon — Sponsored by the Staff Diversity Administrative Advisory Committee and the Office of Campus Community Relations. The luncheon (free) is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the multipurpose room of the Student Community Center; only 70 guests can be accommodated. RSVPs are due by this Friday (Feb. 15). “Come enjoy a free lunch, engage in creative activities around what the Principles of Community mean to you, and learn more about UC Davis constituent groups,” said Alissa Magorian, chair of the Staff Diversity Administrative Advisory Committee, which is one of the constituent groups. Questions? Please contact Magorian by email.
  • “The Principles of Community and Strategies to Foster an Inclusive Environment in the Classroom” — Special event for faculty, noon-1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, Conference Room A, Conference Center. Lunch will be served. RSVPs are requested by email by Friday, March 1. Presented by Colleen Bronner, lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and sponsored by the UC Davis Center for Educational Effectiveness. In this program on establishing safe and supportive learning environments, topics will include managing controversial and-or difficult discussions, and addressing “discussion monopolizers.”

All events except one will be held during Principles of Community Week, Feb. 25-March 1 — the lone exception being the March 7 faculty program noted above. Events are scheduled on the Davis and Sacramento campuses.
