Campus Authors Celebrated at Third Annual Gathering

Campus authors who have published in the past three years will be the focus of a public celebration Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the University of California, Davis. The event, cooperatively sponsored by the campus Academic Senate, the support group Library Associates and the UCD Bookstore, will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union's King Lounge. To highlight the diversity of research interests and the volume of regular publications by the UC Davis faculty, the sponsors have invited more than 60 campus authors to participate in this event. The books cover topics such as economics, philosophy and agricultural, biological, medical and physical sciences, and include works such as novels, short stories and poetry. A program 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. will feature brief remarks by six campus authors, chosen by lot from 60 identified by their departments. The books of all 60 authors will be on display. Below are the names and books of the authors to be featured. • "The Essential Physics of Medical Imaging," by Jerrold T. Bushberg, director of health physics. • "Applied Demography for Biologists, with Special Emphasis on Insects," by James R. Carey, professor of entomology. • "Advances in Soil Dynamics," by William J. Chancellor, professor emeritus of biological and agricultural engineering. • "Morality, Normativity and Society," by David Copp, professor of philosophy. • "Vascular Pathology," by J.T. Lie, professor of medical pathology. • " The God of Indeterminacy," by Sandra McPherson, professor of English. Also present will be Robert D. Grey, provost and executive vice chancellor; Clinton N. Howard, associate university librarian for collection development; Jerry Murphy, chair of the Library Associates program committee; Kathy Spurr, UCD Bookstore; and Jessica Utts, vice chair of the Davis Division of the Academic Senate. The program is open to faculty, staff and students as well as to members of Library Associates and the community.
