Updated 9 a.m. Sept. 11: Brush Truck 34 has been reassigned and is now helping to fight the North Complex Fire, which spans Plumas, Butte and Yuba counties. That fire is 252,534 acres and is 23 percent contained, Cal Fire said this morning.

The UC Davis Fire Department’s Brush Truck 34 returned to campus just long enough to get a fresh crew and head for Clear Lake to be ready to respond to any new fires in the area, Fire Chief Nate Trauernicht said.

Cal Fire released the campus crew Sunday (Sept. 6) from the LNU Lightning Complex, spanning five counties (Lake, Napa, Solano, Sonoma and Yolo counties) and covering 375,209 acres, with containment reported at 91 percent this morning (Sept. 8).

Returning home on Brush 34 were Capt. Kyle Dubs, engineer Derek Carthy, and firefighters Mike Cullen and Meggie Elledge. Capt. Steve Dunn, a strike team leader who left campus to fight the Jones Fire west of Nevada City before being assigned to a separate team at the LNU Lightning Complex, returned to campus last week.

Despite the progress fire crews have made on existing fires, strong winds and low humidity have created red flag warning conditions, according to the National Weather Service, and the new UC Davis team will be part of a group assigned to respond to any new fires. The new team: Capt. Paul Rush, engineer Ben Rizzo, and firefighters Cara Martinez and Avery White.

Brush 34 — with various crews — has now been away from campus fighting wildfires since Aug. 13.

Save all the dates — on a poster!

Whether you are back in your campus office or still working remotely, there’s one thing everyone can use in the new academic year: the 2020-21 campus calendar.

Preorders are now being taken for the poster version, produced by the Office of Strategic Communications and sold by UC Davis Stores (Item No. 2066442).

  • Buy them online with a Purchasing Card (recommended). Please comment during checkout that you are placing a department order.
  • Recharge account: Prior year customers should have received an order form by email; fill out the form and send by email to weborders@ucdavis.edu. Or use a UC Davis Stores purchase order form (if you have access), scan it and include with your email. If you do not have access to the form due to working remotely, contact UC Davis Stores by email, and staff will work with you for recharge approval.

The price is $2.59 apiece. Orders paid by P-Card or recharge will receive a 10 percent discount. Orders of 50 or more calendars billed to a single recharge account or P-Card will receive a 25 percent discount.

The poster calendars are due from the printer around mid-September; delivery to campus department locations may take seven to 10 business days. Pickup will be available the Campus Store (Memorial Union).

Calendars will be available for sale at the Campus Store and Downtown Store, 630 Second St. (at the F Street corner). Find store hours here.

Strategic Communications is also producing a smaller version of the calendar, monthly size, for free download. Watch for details.
