Agriculture in an E-Commerce World to Be Focus of Seminar

E-commerce is changing American business, and agriculture is no exception. Just how the Internet-driven technology will transform the ag industry and how agriculture will adapt are issues to be confronted by business and university experts at the Dec. 4 Executive Seminar on Agricultural Issues in Sacramento. "This meeting is designed neither to deflate the e-commerce hype nor contribute to it," said Daniel Sumner, director of the UC Davis-based UC Agricultural Issues Center and seminar coordinator. "We will do what we do best, which is provide solid analysis, review and reflection." The seminar will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel, 2001 Point West Way in Sacramento. It will offer participants a deeper understanding and better appreciation of the technological and economic implications of dot-com businesses for world markets, California farms, and agricultural supply and marketing firms. The highlight of the program will be a series of presentations by industry experts with practical experience in agricultural supply, marketing and credit. Speakers will represent AgEx.com, Morningstar Company, Calcot, VTraction, CoBank, John Deere and Bank of America. Academics, including professor Jeffery Williams of the UC Davis Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, also will speak. More information about the seminar is available from the UC Agricultural Issues Center, (530) 752-2320 or by e-mail at agissues@ucdavis.edu.
