African American Heritage is Focus of Five-Day Celebration

The 22nd annual African American Family Week, celebrating African American history and culture, will be held Monday through Friday, May 11-15, at the University of California, Davis. No Saturday events are scheduled this year. African American heritage, culture, issues and aspirations are the focus of the week, which includes music, lectures, a play, a fashion show and a "college motivational day." The week's events include: • Composer Olly Wilson with the UC Davis Contemporary Music Players. 8 p.m. Monday, May 11, Main Theatre (7 p.m. pre-performance lecture) • Playwright and actress h. Teirrah McNair, in the one-woman show "Dirty Laundry." 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, Freeborn Hall • Visiting lecturer La Francis Rodgers-Rose on "Afrocentricity and Relationships." 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, in MU II of the Memorial Union • The UC Davis Gospel Choir in a "gospel extravaganza." 7 p.m. Friday, May 15, in Freeborn Hall For more information on the week's activities, call the cultural days office at 752-4938.
