Last fall, nearly 3,000 students interested in health care careers had the opportunity to meet with professionals and learn about a variety of medical-related fields, including veterinary medicine, occupational therapy, dentistry and nursing.

Organized and presented by UC Davis pre-health student volunteers, the conference gives them valuable leadership experience, and in turn they help peers find their passions and explore career options.

It’s almost that time of year again! On Saturday, Oct. 14, pre-health students from near and far will come to campus for the annual UC Davis Pre-Health Conference.

This year’s theme, “Redefine boundaries, expand perspectives, explore your purpose,” invites attendees to look at their options from allopathic medicine to veterinary medicine.

For 15 years, the conference has encouraged students to engage in an interprofessional and collaborative approach to health care through workshops, exhibitor fairs and more.

Join us at this year’s conference and take advantage of these five features.

1. Networking events

Get one-on-one advice from inspiring professionals in a casual lunch setting or after the conference at our networking reception. Networking with professionals doesn’t just give you valuable guidance; it can also lead to long-term career mentorships.

2. Diversity workshops

Discussing diversity among health care professionals and patients is essential for aspiring health professionals to understand how to treat future patients. Gain insight at our diversity workshops that cover LGBTQIA and gender health, immigrant access to health care, and guides for undocumented student applying to health professional schools.

3. New and improved interactive workshops

In addition to our popular suturing, casting and ultrasound workshops, this year’s conference will feature a new hands-on pharmacy and improved mock interview workshops. Take the opportunity to practice interviewing with professionals from different fields before you apply to health profession schools. This year’s conference includes even more interactive workshops sessions.

4. Learn about new health professions

Take a break from workshops and meet representatives and admissions staff from health professional schools. You won’t want to miss out on over 250 exhibitors and representatives from increasingly popular professions such as clinical lab science.

Bonus: Vouchers for food trucks

This year, find gourmet food trucks on campus and choose from a wide variety of selections to keep you going for a productive conference day. Just present your $8 voucher, included with your ticket purchase, and grab lunch before exploring hundreds of exhibitors at the pre-health fair.
