NEW MASTERS OF FINE ARTS SHINE IN GOLD STAR SHOW: Graduate students receiving their master of fine arts degrees are due to show their work in Gold Star: 2007 Masters of Fine Arts Exhibition, scheduled from June 1 to 22 in two venues: Nelson Gallery, 124 Art Building, and The Gallery on the second floor of the Memorial Union.

The students: Jamie Banes, Ashley Gierke, Francisco Gonzalez, Richard Haley, Mariah Hess, Christian Lanier, Gabrielle Lerner and Cynthia Yardley.

Opening day receptions are scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Gallery and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nelson Gallery.

FREE PROGRAM ANNOUNCED: CONCERTOS THEN AND NOW: The UC Davis Department of Music announced that it will present Concertos Then and Now, with free admission, at 7 p.m. June 5 in Jackson Hall of the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.

Jessica Bejarano and D. Kern Holoman are listed as the conductors for a program featuring Nick Antipa in Haydn's Trumpet Concerto; Zoe Kemmerling and Kimberlee Uwate (violas) in Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 6; and Susan Monticello (flute), John Wu (violin) and Michael Orland (piano) in a neo-Romantic performance of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, after the model of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's recording for RCA, attempting to imitate American orchestral practice in the 1950s.

Holoman is conductor of the symphony orchestra, and Bejarano, a first-year graduate student in conducting, is the assistant conductor. Antipa, Kemmerling, Uwate, Monticello and Wu are members of the symphony orchestra, and Orland is a graduate of UC Berkeley, where he teaches in the Young Musicians Program.

CONCERT BAND, WIND UNIT PLAN FUN SHOW FOR SPRING: The University Concert Band and Wind Ensemble announced a fun-filled spring performance starting at 7 p.m. June 6 in Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center.

The lighthearted program includes "Rocky Point Holiday" by Ron Nelson, "Hoe-Down" (from Rodeo) by Aaron Copland and "An American in Paris" by George Gershwin.
