Charles Roddy, who has worked in university advancement for more than two decades, has been named UC Davis' assistant vice chancellor for alumni and constituency relations and events, and executive director of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association, following a national search.

In his new post, Roddy will oversee UC Davis' alumni relations program and the campus's ceremonies and special events unit.

"I am excited to welcome Charlie as a member of the University Relations team," said Beverly "Babs" Sandeen, vice chancellor for University Relations. "He has great experience in engaging alumni and has the goal of developing our association into the model program for the nation. He also has experience in event management and planning."

Roddy, who will report to Sandeen, comes to UC Davis from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, where he served most recently as a senior major gifts officer.

Prior to his tenure at UMass medical school, Roddy served as assistant vice president for institutional advancement and director of alumni relations at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va., and, before that, directed award-winning alumni relations programs at the University of San Francisco and at the UCLA School of Medicine.

Roddy has a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and a master's in education administration and policy studies from UCLA.

In taking the reins of alumni affairs, he follows Jennifer Barber '92, who held the post in an interim capacity for nearly 21 months.

Roddy is scheduled to begin work at UC Davis on May 1. As assistant vice chancellor, he will receive an annual salary of $118,000.
