TREASURED VISITOR ...

U.S. Treasurer Anna Escobedo Cabral, a 1987 alumna of UC Davis, greets students, faculty and alumni during her daylong visit on May 12. The treasurer spoke to faculty members and campus administrators about President Bush's proposal on Social Security reform, and addressed students and alumni, including members of the Chicano/Latino Alumni Chapter. Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef met with Cabral in February in Washington, D.C., and extended an invitation to visit the campus. Among her other accomplishments, in 2003, Cabral was named director of the Smithsonian Center for Latino Initiatives, which fosters appreciation of Latino culture through the Smithsonian's holdings, and, in 1999, she became head of the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility, which seeks to increase Hispanic representation in Fortune 1000 companies.
