Senior Jeremy Wong, a resident advisor and chemistry department employee for the summer, checks out the UC Davis Bookstore's display of Harry Potter books, introduced with fanfare at midnight sales across the country last Friday. The store opened sales of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Saturday at noon, where Wong was first to buy a copy. The bookstore ordered 300 copies of "HP5," says tradebooks buyer Paul Takushi. It sold some 60 over the weekend -- about as many as the store typically has sold all year of previous Harry Potter releases. Meanwhile, the store has sold about 850 copies of the Campus Community Book Project selection for 2003, Gandhi's Way. On summer weekdays, the store closes at 5 p.m.
