Stebbins Cold Canyon Reserve reopened to hikers today (June 10), but officials are urging caution to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to stay safe from the natural hazards that exist on the trail.

As always, no water is available on-site (hikers should each bring at least 1 gallon), but now the portable restroom has been removed because of concerns about the coronavirus.

Sarah Oktay, director of Stebbins Cold Canyon, said it can be difficult to maintain six feet of distance from other hikers on the narrow trails of the reserve, but signs posted there encourage visitors to try their best — and to wear face coverings.

The signs also urge hikers to limit their time to the cooler morning hours and to avoid the trails entirely during red flag warnings for hot, dry conditions. Other guidelines are posted on the reserve’s website.

The reserve closed in late March, and the reopening is being done in conjunction with the reserve’s state and federal land partners, along with Solano County officials.
