A bike is auctioned off at the spring 2014 Bicycle Auction.

Spring is in the air, and so is bicycling — so, TAPS is putting them together for a Spring Bike Fest, Wednesday (April 29), as part of the regular Wednesday Farmers Market on the Quad, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Don’t have a bike? Consider going to the TAPS Bike Auction, this Saturday (May 2), where you could ride away for around $60 (that was the average sale price at the last auction).

Spring Bike Fest

Transportation and Parking Services, or TAPS, is sponsoring this free kickoff to May is Bike Month and Physical Activities Month.

The festival will emphasize bike safety — for example, Bike Barn mechanics will offer information on tune-ups and safety checks; and TAPS, the campus Police Department and Davis Bicycles! will give away bike lights and other prizes.

Bike Auction

The TAPS Bicycle Program conducts auctions twice a year — putting more than 400 abandoned bikes up for sale each time. The inventory can include bikes of all kinds — cruisers, mountain bikes, road bikes, BMX and even children’s bicycles — in all kinds of conditions.

Auction preview starts at 8 a.m., and the sale starts at 9 and continues until all items have gone up for bid. Sale location is the west entry parking garage (Pavilion Parking Structure) off Hutchison Drive east of La Rue Road.
