Safe And Cool

Lifeguard Lyndsey Wick, a third-year chemistry major, keeps a watchful eye on swimmers at Rec Pool, which serves as a central cooling-off place for UC Davis students, staff, faculty members and their children in spring and summer. This year, in addition to the normal adult and youth swim classes, a junior lifeguarding program for 10- to 15-year-olds has been added to provide a fun and valuable summer activity for kids. But kids aren't the only ones expected to enjoy the pool, Recreation Pool staff predicts more than 300 community members will crowd the pool every day during the summer. Twenty-seven student employees will work to keep the place running smoothly from noon to 6: 45 p.m. It costs $1 each for university affiliates and children per day, so come out, enjoy the sun, and take a jump off the diving board.
