Friday, Oct. 9

Flu vaccination order revised

Per executive order from the Office of the President (as revised Sept. 29), “Effective November 1, 2020, all students, faculty and staff living, learning or working on premises at any UC location must receive a flu vaccine, unless they receive an approved medical exemption or disability or religious accommodation.”

Please note: Even though you may not be “living, learning or working on premises” at this time, consider the entire length of flu season. If at any time during the season you might “living, learning or working on premises,” you should be sure to get a flu shot by Nov. 1. All other members of the UC community and their families are strongly encouraged to get the flu vaccination.

Fall travel advisory

UC’s prohibition on all nonessential university international travel remains in place. Requests for international travel must be submitted no later than three weeks before the desired departure date, for consideration by the Travel review Committee. The university recommends against domestic travel, especially by plane, until the COVID-19 outbreak has been mitigated. See Global Affairs’ coronavirus travel announcements.

UC to require flu immunizations by Nov. 1

The University of California announced today that an influenza immunization will be required for students and employees at all locations this fall. In consultation with public health authorities, the UC Immunization Policy Committee recommended the measure due to the potential for widespread community transmission of influenza, in addition to the COVID-19, both of which would put a severe burden on already strained health care systems. The deadline for immunization or receiving a medical exemption is Nov. 1.

Big Sky Conference postpones football to spring 2021

The Big Sky Conference, in which UC Davis plays football, announced today that it is postponing its fall 2020 football season to spring 2021. The conference’s Presidents’ Council, of which UC Davis Chancellor Gary S. May is a member, con­vened Thursday and voted to move forward in this manner. California public health officials releases guidance for higher education

The California Department of Public Health today released statewide interim guidance for institutions of higher education to help them and their communities plan and prepare to resume in-person instruction when appropriate based on local conditions.

The guidance identifies areas they must consider as they resume in-person instruction and outlines steps conditions under which collegiate athletics may return. Read the news release and the full guidance document.
