How are professional firefighters responding, and what’s new in wildland firefighting? What kinds of strain is this putting on fire services?

Joining us to discuss these issues - and take your live questions from the audience - is Nathan Trauernicht, Fire Chief for UC Davis. UC Davis Fire Department student firefighters have fought wildfires both close to campus and through mutual aid across California, including the recent Dixie and Caldor fires.

The UC Davis Fire Department was established in 1917 and is one of a handful in the country to have a cadet program for student firefighters and EMTs.

Trauernicht has been in the fire service since 1993. Among many professional activities he is a member of the Wildland Fire Policy Committee of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and current President of the Institution of Fire Engineers USA Branch.
