Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi and Vice Chancellor and Dean Julie A. Freischlag invite faculty and staff to an open house next week at the newly expanded Davis Clinic, part of UC Davis Medical Group.

Katehi and Freischlag will host the open house from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 25, with welcome remarks set for 5:30 p.m. The program will include free health screenings and light refreshments. Each faculty and staff member is invited to bring a guest. If you plan on going, please send an RSVP by email by Friday (June 19).

In March, the clinic at 2660 W. Covell Blvd. expanded into 2440 W. Covell next door, bringing total clinic size to 33,245 square feet to accommodate additional medical staff, including specialists.

“We are proud to show how our Davis Clinic is growing to meet the community’s needs,” Chancellor Katehi said.

The clinic serves many faculty and staff members and their families who live in the Davis-Woodland-Dixon region, said Freischlag, who leads UC Davis Health System and its medical group.

“Whether you’re already a member of the UC Davis Medical Group, or considering us during open enrollment (in November), we encourage you to come check out the new clinic,” she said. “Our patients, of course, have full access to UC Davis Health System’s expertise.”

At the present time, UC Davis Medical Group is a provider option in all but one of the medical plans offered to UC Davis employees (the exception is Kaiser Permanente).

The Davis Clinic, which opened in 1994, now has nine family physicians and will have three more starting this summer. With additional staff on the way, the clinic announced that it will begin accepting new adult patients in August. New pediatric patients are being accepted now.

Besides family practice and pediatrics, the clinic also has specialists in internal medicine, obstetrics-gynecology, dermatology, allergy, rheumatology, cardiology, podiatry, general surgery, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, orthopedic hand surgery and sports medicine.

More specialists are due this summer in gastroenterology, hepatology and pulmonary medicine.

The expansion includes space for pre- and post-op visits with UC Davis Medical Center orthopedists and podiatrists, who, through a new affiliation, began performing a range of outpatient procedures at the Davis Surgery Center last summer.

Other services include lab and X-ray, with mammography planned for 2016; a full-service retail pharmacy (where, by the way, you can pick up mail-order-quantity prescriptions at mail-order prices); and dietitian and lactation consults.

UC Davis employees who are UC Davis Medical Group patients may request an additional layer of privacy on their electronic medical records; the safeguard, called “Break the Glass,” requires health care staff to record explicit reasons for accessing your records. Directions: From Highway 113, go west on West Covell Boulevard, about 0.8 miles. The clinic is on the left.
