100,000 people (or nearly that many) expected to attend Picnic Day, April 17.

9:30 Parade starting time (a.m.) on North Quad Avenue between Wickson and Hunt halls.

$0 Parking fee on campus.

6 tasty products to sample for free, courtesy of the UC Davis Olive Center: one olive oil (Centennial Blend Extra Virgin Olive Oil), two vinegars ( Dinny Red Wine Vinegar and Dinny White Wine Vinegar) and three varieties of Sicilian-style table olives (Lemon Citrus, Gourmet Garlic and Sicilian Spice), plus 30 loaves of bread, to be cut up and used for olive oil dipping. On the Memorial Union's north courtyard, outside the entrance to the bookstore. And, if you like the samples, you can buy your own bottles (olive oil and vinegar) and jars (table olives) in the bookstore. 3,000 Half-cups of ice cream, produced by the Food Technology Club and handed out for free, Robert Mondavi Institute for Wine and Food Science.

9 Music and dance events (including the Symphony Orchestra and the Main Stage Dance-Theatre Festival), and gallery and museum exhibitions listed in this special feature: The Arts on Picnic Day.

7 million Insect specimens (and live bugs, too, including 60-80 racing cockroaches) in the Bohart Museum of Entomology, 1124 Academic Surge, open 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The Botanical Conservatory also will be open 11-4; and the Herbarium will present an exhibition in the Sciences Laboratory Building lobby, 11-3.

4 Chemistry Club Magic Shows: 10 and 11:30 a.m., and 1 and 2:30 p.m., in 194 Chemistry.

75 Rooms in the new Hyatt Place, at the campus’s south entry. The hotel will be open for tours on Picnic Day. Story and photos.
