Facilities Management is offering a new way to refresh your office. No estimate needed and once the work starts, it’ll be done within five business days. Each job has a fixed cost of $3,500 for offices up to 150 square feet (the campus average). The price includes wall paint, floor covering and base, new ceiling tiles or paint for the existing ceiling, and blinds for offices with windows.
Officials said the program responds to two recurring customer requests: Bring down the cost of sprucing up offices and get the work done faster. “We see this as a win-win for our customers,” said Jeff Carbahal, project manager. “The customer won’t have to request an estimate and by dedicating a crew to this effort, offices can be refreshed within five business days of the work starting.”
By offering six preset design palettes, Facilities Management can purchase the materials (chosen for their durability and ease of maintenance) in bulk. Your choices range from “Gunrock Fields Forever” to “Vineyard Vibes” and “Water Tower Blues.” You can view the palettes on the Office Refresh website, or in person at two locations on campus or at Design and Construction Management on Cousteau Place.
Interested? Look for instructions under “Sign me up!” on the Office Refresh page. Carbahal will then visit you in your office, at no cost, to take measurements and show you physical samples of the six palettes.
WarnMe test rescheduled for this Thursday
A test of WarnMe and Aggie Alert, originally scheduled for last week, is now set for Thursday (Feb. 16).
Emergency officials encourage members of the campus community to update contact information for the test, scheduled for about 11:50 a.m. The test will go out on all devices registered with the emergency notification system, including work and personal emails and phones.
The system draws on employees’ work contact information as published in the university’s online directory and includes students’ official UC Davis email addresses. Members of the campus community are also asked to update or add personal contact information, which is not published.
Others without ucdavis.edu email accounts can subscribe to receive messages and update contact information at the community registration page.

Administrative committees are looking for you!
It’s our home away from home, this campus of ours, so why not get involved in community issues — by applying for membership on any one of our administrative advisory committees for 2017-18?
The committees address topics such as arts, child and family care, diversity, student services, and research, and provide an opportunity for all constituencies — Academic Senate and Academic Federation members, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students — to participate in governance of the campus.
“As a member of an administrative advisory committee, you can ensure that your constituency’s perspectives are well represented in the committee’s recommendations to the administration,” Interim Chancellor Ralph J. Hexter said in a memo to the campus, encouraging applications. “You can also help representatives from other constituencies understand your interests and concerns and, in turn, learn more about their views of campus issues.
“As indicated in our Principles of Community, we aspire to create an inclusive community and therefore committee members are selected based on the interest of applicants coupled with the desire to have each committee reflect multiple dimensions of diversity – for example, but not limited to, ethnicity, gender, academic discipline, etc. – to inform administrative decision making.”
The Administrative Advisory Committees webpage includes brief descriptions of each committee, as well as a link to the application form. The deadline is April 5.

Tax-fraud season is like the flu. It comes around each year, and you need to take extra precautions when the risk is high.
“We don’t know what the scams are going to look like this year,” stated an advisory from UC’s Systemwide Information Security Office, “but expect attackers will only get craftier.”
UC offered this advice to employees:
- To access your W-2 statement, go directly to At Your Service Online instead of clicking on a link in an email.
- Use known contact information to verify any request for W-2 or other tax information, even if it looks like it’s from someone you know.
