NEWS BRIEFS: International Travel Requires Registration

Quick Summary

  • Tailgate on Champions Corridor
  • Reception set for AVC Don Hunt
  • CPE on the move in Sacramento
  • AggieSurplus hours are changing

Summer is here, a time when more UC Davis affiliates go abroad for study and research, prompting Global Affairs to post a reminder about the travel registration requirement enacted last year to promote travelers’ safety and security, and ensure appropriate risk mitigation procedures are applied to “high-risk” travels.

Please note: Trip registration is automatically included for trips booked through AggieTravel (Connexxus). If you book your travel elsewhere, you’ll need to register through UC Away.

At no cost, trip registration provides UC Davis travelers and companions traveling on university business with comprehensive benefits, including emergency evacuation, medical care, travel alerts, and reimbursement for property loss and trip delays.

Registration takes less than a minute and provides travelers with critical, location-specific travel updates, important insurance information, and ensures timely response in the event of a crisis anywhere in the world.

“Last year, during a trip, I experienced a medical emergency,” Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Ralph J. Hexter said. “I always register my trip and am more conscious than ever of the need to have a communications plan in place.”

Tailgate on Champions Corridor

UC Davis Athletics announced a new premium tailgate zone for Aggie football in the fall: Champions Corridor on La Rue Road in front of the stadium. Also this fall, a second parking lot will be designated for Team Aggie, with tailgating permitted in both locations.

The changes (see map) result from the loss of Tailgate Field at the southwest corner of La Rue Road and Hutchison Drive, where the Student-Athlete Performance Center is under construction.

The Aggies are coming off their first Big Sky Conference title — so “Champions” Corridor is the perfect place to tailgate. The corridor has 50 spaces, and, in this inaugural season, each space comes with a UC Davis-branded pop-up tent. Limited spaces remain, so, act fast — call 530-752-AGS1 (2471) — if you’re interested.

Lot 53 (southwest of the stadium) will be the second Team Aggie parking lot, joining Lot 56 (south of the stadium). Team Aggie parking is reserved for athletics donors.

Season tickets: Online, in person or by phone. Renew or purchase by June 30 to receive a replica Big Sky championship ring, while supplies last.

The Aggies’ regular season schedule includes five home games, starting Saturday, Sept. 14, versus Lehigh.

A welcome reception is scheduled from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 15, for Don Hunt, associate vice chancellor of Enrollment Management. The reception, including light refreshments, will be held in Meeting Room D at the Student Community Center. RSVPs are requested by July 12 and can be made online.

Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Ralph J. Hexter announced Hunt’s appointment April 23. He takes up his new post July 1, after four years as associate vice president of Enrollment and Student Services at California State University, Sacramento.

As AVC for Enrollment Management at UC Davis, he oversees Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Office of the University Registrar, and Enrollment Management Analytics.

CPE on the move in Sacramento

Continuing and Professional Education’s new address in Sacramento: One Capitol Mall.

UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (formerly UC Davis Extension) announced a new home for its Sacramento classrooms: One Capitol Mall (Suite 260).

Classes will begin meeting in the new location on Monday, July 15; until then, classes will continue to meet at Midtown’s Sutter Square Galleria, beside the westbound lanes of the Capital City Freeway (Business 80). Continuing and Professional Education, or CPE, classes in other locations, including the UC Davis campus, will be unaffected by the move.

One Capitol Mall, an eight-story office building with on-site parking, sits along Interstate 5 at the foot of the boulevard connecting the Tower Bridge and the state Capitol.

Susan Catron, dean of Continuing and Professional Education, described One Capitol Mall as iconic. “It reflects the energy and vision of Sacramento and inspires achievement. It’s perfect for teaching the working professionals we serve.”

Continuing and Professional Education has 13 classrooms in its new Sacramento home, in space formerly occupied by Drexel University. One Capitol Mall also formerly housed the UC Davis Graduate School of Management’s Sacramento part-time MBA program.

One Capitol Mall is a temporary home for Continuing and Professional Education, which will be an anchor tenant at Aggie Square, the innovation hub now being planned on UC Davis’ Sacramento campus.

AggieSurplus to alter hours

AggieSurplus hours will change to 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, effective July 1. “This change enables AggieSurplus to staff the store according to customer shopping patterns, thus ensuring a financially sustainable business model,” according to a statement on the Supply Chain Management website.

“The new hours will also improve the turnaround time of processing work order requests, and the coordination of scheduling and retrieving surplus materials from departments, which will allow staff to quickly return into circulation excess campus and UC Davis Health equipment, furniture and supplies.”

The statement concludes: “AggieSurplus will continue to seek ways to improve upon the customer experience while complying with campus policy for the disposition of surplus materials.”
