The Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts this week announced two big additions to the 2008-09 calendar, both playing the center for the first time:

• Legendary singer-songwriter Willie Nelson, who penned numerous country and crossover hits in the 1960s, and subsequently became one of the fathers of the subgenre known as outlaw country, performing along with fellow “outlaw” Waylon Jennings on country music’s first platinum album. Nelson has been putting on the annual Farm Aid concert since 1985.

k.d. lang, known for more than two decades for her flawless, sultry, smooth-as-silk voice and eclectic choice of material. Her newest album is Watershed, which she describes as being “like a culmination of everything I’ve done—there’s a little bit of jazz, a little country, a little of the ingénue sound, a little Brazilian touch.”
