Listproc’s replacement in pilot mode

Information and Educational Technology has launched a pilot preview phase for Sympa, an electronic mailing list service that will replace Listproc.

Faculty, students and staff use Listproc to manage more than 10,000 mailing lists, but the 18-year-old software is outdated and no longer meets campus security standards. IET started work last year on replacing Listproc, leading to the Sympa preview phase that began April 13 and is scheduled to run through June 11.

During this phase, according to an IET spokesman, people can get acquainted with Sympa, provide feedback on Sympa’s interface and instructions, and help IET finish preparing Sympa for general release to the campus community.

Listproc ‘retirement’

IET plans to move all active e-mail lists and list archives to Sympa starting in June, with minimal disruption to list users. As of now, IET plans to retire Listproc in December.
