This column offers a sampling of honors recently awarded to UC Davis faculty, staff and units:

M. Levent Kavvas, a civil and environmental engineering professor, received the Ven Te Chow Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers. He was recognized for his notable contributions and outstanding service to the profession through the founding of the ASCE Journal of Hydrologic Engineering and his mentoring of young hydrologic engineers.

Richard Dorf, professor emeritus in the Graduate School of Management, published a major revision of his full-length textbook Technology Ventures: From Idea to Opportunity, Third Edition (McGraw-Hill, 2010) with co-authors Professor Tom Byers of the Stanford Technology Ventures Program, and Professor Andrew Nelson of the Lundquist College of Business at University of Oregon. Technology Ventures is a resource for entrepreneurs.

Nancy Rupp Tibbitts, a UC Davis alumna who for 26 years served as a coordinator and adviser in the campus’s Internship and Career Center, will be recognized posthumously by the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation on campus at a March 31 awards luncheon. Tibbits, who died Oct. 20, will be one of six recipients of a Common Threads Award. For information on attending the awards luncheon, visit www.agleaders.org/council/commonthreadsdavis.html.

Law professor Edward J. Imwinkelried has been appointed to the International Advisory Board of The Irish Jurist, the primary legal journal of faculty at the University College Dublin School of Law, one of the leading centers for legal education and research in Ireland. Imwinkelried taught as a visiting professor at University College Dublin; UC Davis School of Law has an exchange program with the school.

Patricia Turner, UC Davis vice provost for Undergraduate Studies and a faculty member in the African American and African Studies and the American Studies programs, has been invited to speak March 24 as part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Lecture Series 2010 at Penn State Harrisburg.
