It Was A Blast--er--Splash!

A UC Davis staff tradition held true last week when more than 2,000 employees had a blast at the Thank Goodness for Staff barbecue at Putah Creek Lodge. Some people, actually, had a dunk: Administrators Bob Franks (seen with his snorkel and face mask, top), John Gregg and Stan Nosek enticed long lines of pitchers hoping to hit the dunk-tank target and make a splash. Also popular was the squirt-gun shoot, where staffers took aim at a sunscreen bottles at the Employee Health Awareness booth. Barbecue participants chose next year's TGFS logo created by Keith Stevenson of Editorial/Design. Other winners included "Guess the Weight" estimator Yuri Rodriguez from the Department of Human and Community Development, who was only 57 pounds off from the 11,457-pound total of the mystery object, an antique steam generator and passengers. Melissa the cow delivered a trip for two to Disneyland to Debi Foster from the Department of Vegetable Crops during the Bovine Bingo Contest, while the other Disneyland trip went to Millie Ling of the Section of Microbiology, whose ticket was the first drawn during a raffle.
