By Dateline Staff on January 30, 2018 in University

The Staff and Faculty Health and Well-Being Program announced a “Preventing Diabetes” class and a new series of Gentle Lunchtime Yoga, and, as it’s almost the first of the month — your Well-Being Ticket Deal for February!

Preventing Diabetes: Living Healthy” — 6-8 p.m. Monday (Feb. 5), Hoagland Hall, presented in partnership with UC Davis Health.

The class covers:

  • Risk factors — Are you over 45 years of age, overweight, have a family history of diabetes, have an inactive lifestyle? Do you have Hispanic, Alaskan, black or American Indian ethnicity? Have you been told you have prediabetes?
  • Lifestyle changes — Including nutrition, physical activity and weight management, to delay or prevent Type II diabetes.

The class is open to UC Davis staff, faculty, students and retirees. Register by calling 916-734-0718 to sign up; there is no online registration. Questions? Contact the organizers by email or phone, 916-734-0718.

Gentle Lunchtime Yoga — This four-part, relaxing series caters to all abilities, and has a focus on breathing, stretches and poses. Learn more about your well-being through movement.

The series will meet from 12:10 to 1 p.m. on four consecutive Tuesdays, Feb. 20-March 13, in the Vanderhoef Studio Theatre at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.

Sign-ups are being taken online; space is limited. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring your own mat, blanket or towel. Questions? Contact the organizers by email or call 530-752-6051.

Well-Being Ticket Deal — $10 tickets for staff and faculty to see Compañía Nacional de Danza’s production of Carmen at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. The discounted tickets are available only from Feb. 1 to 14 — and, yes, this is the February ticket deal, despite the fact the show is in March — 8 p.m. Saturday, March 3, in Jackson Hall. (Note: This is a different day and time than what had been announced previously.)

You will be seeing choreographer Johan Inger’s award-winning retelling of the 142-year-old story of passion and violence, contemporized, with the mountains of Ronda reimagined as poor suburbs, the soldiers as executives and the bullfighter as movie star. There will be a post-performance question-and-answer session with the company.

Tickets are available online (use the promo code CARMEN2018) and at the Mondavi Center box office (open noon-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and one hour before all ticketed events). Remember: Well-Being Ticket Deal pricing is available only from the first to the 14th of the month.
